Frequently asked questions
QIs recreational cannabis legal in Thailand in 2026?
ANo. Since 25–26 June 2025, cannabis flower is a controlled herb: medical-only, dispensed by licensed shops against a Thai PT33 prescription (max 30-day supply). Public smoking is penalized; online sales, delivery and advertising are prohibited.
QCan tourists buy from my dispensary?
AYes — the same rules apply: 20+, passport as ID, and a PT33 prescription from a licensed Thai practitioner. Telemedicine assessments arranged on-site are common. Foreign medical cards are not valid.
QWhat happened to shops that didn't comply?
AOver 7,000 of roughly 18,000 shops closed under enforcement after June 2025, with license suspensions and closures for unlicensed or non-compliant operations. Compliance is the business model now.
